1. 50 Years of National Emergency in India

Why was Emergency imposed in 1975?
a. Social unrest: Protests, strikes, and demonstrations led by the JP Movement questioned the legitimacy of Indira Gandhi’s rule.
b. Economic crisis post-1971 war: Severe inflation, unemployment, and stagnation worsened by the global oil crisis.
c. Political factors: The Allahabad High Court invalidated Indira Gandhi’s election on charges of electoral malpractice (Raj Narain case). This judgment and rising unrest pushed the government to centralize power.

2. Delhi High Court Protects Personality Rights of Sadhguru

  • Delhi HC protected Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s personality rights from misuse by AI tools.

  • Concerns include AI-generated deepfakes, cloned voices, and fake endorsements that harm reputation and privacy.

About Personality Rights:

  • Right to Publicity: Protects image and likeness from unauthorized commercial exploitation. Governed partly under Trademark Act, 1999 & Copyright Act, 1957.

  • Right to Privacy: Protection from unauthorized public representation. Recognized under Article 21 and Justice K.S. Puttaswamy (Retd.) case, 2017.

3. New Unified HQ of Quality Council of India (QCI)

  • Inaugurated by Minister of State for Commerce & Industry.

  • Chairman: Appointed by PM on recommendation of industry to the government.

  • Role: Implementing agency for Swachh Survekshan Survey under Swachh Bharat Mission.

4. ECINET Platform Used in Bye-Elections

  • Election Commission of India used its new ECINET digital platform during recent bye-elections in Gujarat, Punjab, West Bengal, and Kerala.

5. India Refuses SCO Defence Joint Declaration

  • At the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Qingdao, China, India refused to sign the joint declaration.

  • Reason:

    • Ignored Pahalgam terror attack but mentioned militant activities in Balochistan.
